Established in London in 2014, Intellium Advisory Ltd (”Intellium”)  focuses on mid-market cross-border M&A transactions related to China, and helping Europeans companies expand their business into Asia. The team at Intellium consists of four partners based in London with over 35 years of cross-border M&A and investment experience.

Having been the world manufacturing base and world economic engine  for the past decade, China is increasingly faced with the challenges of rising labor cost and competition from other emerging markets. Chinese companies feel an urgent need to improve its global competitiveness by upgrading their technology and producing higher value added products. Acquisition is a faster way of achieving this strategic objective.

Due to disruption by COVID, many small to medium sized companies with core markets in Europe and the Americas are operating under extremely demanding market conditions. Some of these companies with long history, brand  recognition, high end product offering, and cutting edge technology would be great partners or acquisition targets of Chinese companies  with access to the vast Chinese markets. Intellium believes that these mid-market transactions are the sweet spot for Chinese companies. We intend to focus on cross-border mid-market transactions.

Intellium will also assist Western companies in executing their China  strategy by setting up Sino-foreign joint venture companies or making  acquisitions in China. Due to the scarcity of acquisition targets, specific industry ownership restriction, and high valuation expectation, acquisition of control in  Chinese companies is increasingly difficult to achieve. Setting up joint ventures is often the preferred mode of expansion. Negotiation of joint venture  agreements is often more lengthy than a normal sale and purchase  agreement, and requires know-how in specific  commercial and operational areas. We have developed expertise in advising clients in setting up Sino-foreign joint ventures.
